Privacy policy
Afterimage is a memory-drawing game made by Shogic Games ("we", "us"). This page explains what the game keeps about you and why. The short version: we keep only what the game needs to work, we show no ads, and we never sell your data.
Who it is for
Afterimage is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
What we keep
- On your device: your progress, settings, streak and sketchbook are saved on your device (in the app or in browser storage).
- A guest account: the first time you play a rated round, the game creates an anonymous account with a random ID. There is no name or email attached to it.
- Your email address, only if you choose "Save your progress". It is used to send you sign-in codes and to let you sign in on another device. We do not send marketing email.
- Your rated rounds: which picture you drew, the lines you drew (as coordinates), your score, how long you took, and your rating. We use these to score you, to keep your level, and to work out how hard each picture is for everyone.
- Your progress (email accounts only): streak, daily goal and similar, so it follows you between devices.
- Anonymous usage and error information: while you play, the game sends short anonymous messages to our own server, such as "the app was opened", "a round was played" (with its difficulty, score and time taken), "a set was finished", or "something went wrong" with a short technical error message. Each message carries a random install ID created on your device, a random ID for that launch, the platform (web, iPhone/iPad or Android) and the app version. This ID is not linked to your name, email or account, and we do not store your IP address or advertising ID with it. We use it to find and fix bugs and to see how the game is used, for example how many people play each day.
We do not collect your name, location, contacts, photos or advertising ID, and the game has no third-party analytics or advertising.
Turning usage information off
You can stop the anonymous usage and error messages at any time in Settings → Game settings → Share anonymous usage info. Messages already sent are deleted automatically after 90 days. Because the install ID is not linked to your account, deleting your account does not remove them, but they cannot be traced back to you.
Who handles it for us
- Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the website and the pictures.
- Resend, which delivers the sign-in code emails.
They process data only to provide those services to us.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep your account data until you delete it. Anonymous usage and error messages are kept for 90 days and then deleted automatically. You can delete your account and everything linked to it any time in the game (Settings → Your progress → Delete my account and data), or by following the steps on the delete your account page. Deleting removes your account, your rating, your progress and the drawings you uploaded. Drawings kept only on your device are removed when you clear the game data or uninstall it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you. Write to support@shogic.games and we will help.
Picture credits
The pictures come from open-source icon and emoji sets. Credits are in the game under Settings → Credits.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the game if the change is significant.
